The Harvest Dispatch, Full Circle

Welp, we've come full circle, farmily. Today the Sown & Grown CSA farm share officially rotates Moringa greens back into our harvests! For me personally, this punctuates a particularly exciting milestone- Sown & Grown has officially maintained our CSA farm share program for nearly a year. In spite of a few set backs and upsets, members staid by our side and endured the rollercoaster ride that is urban farming in Houston, TX. We continue to grow, build membership, and soon will be expanding to our second pick-up location off 20th Street just north of the Heights! Thank you for your trust, enthusiasm for local veg, loyalty to our cause, and all-around incredible spirits that make CSA day a joy for me each and every week. I look forward to yet another year of feeding you and your families- stomach, heart, and soul! And now for our harvest dispatch...

MORINGA GREENS! So I wrote about Moringa in one of the first Harvest Dispatch posts last year, but the quick skinny is this: Eat Moringa; eat it entirely; eat it often; eat it joyfully! Raw or cooked, this is one of the most protein-packed greens we can grow in our fair city. The tree grows effortlessly and abundantly... up to 20+ feet tall given enough room until it dies back to its root stock come winter. I enjoy it mixed in a fruit salad (strawberries, blueberries, and watermelon!) or in a salad-salad. You really can't go wrong with these walnutty, tender delights! If you feel a bit unsure, though, just toss it in with any other greens you may be cooking and it will yield to their flavors instead.

Then we have these usual suspects...

And your share contained either swiss chard OR some assorted lettuce...

As well as one (or some combination) of the following kale varieties. I'm personally cooking my kale greens this time of year... think quiches, Spanish omelettes, lasagna, pesto pastas, curry, or just sautéed simply!

Buen provecho, darlings!

With love,
Farmer Becca
